Why running can be dangerous to your health...
Drunk locked up for attack on city jogger
A DRUNKEN teenager seriously injured a jogger running beside a city canal when he smashed his head with an aerosol can he had been using to spray graffiti.
The head wound was so serious that the 62-year-old man has been left with permanently damaged vision.
Drunk James Blakely, 18, hit jogger William Chalmers on the head with the can at a Union Canal path near Calder Crescent in Edinburgh on June 5 last year.
Mr Chalmers, who regularly competed in road races and described running as his joy, had been training for a triathlon on the day he was attacked.
Defence agent Angus McLennan told Edinburgh Sheriff Court that Blakely had been at a party and had also taken Ecstasy.
Sheriff Kenneth McIver ordered the teenager, of Saughton Mains Avenue, Edinburgh, to be detained for three years in a young offenders’ institution

The official word from USAT
Our Board meeting just wrapped up so now it's time for all of us to go out and celebrate! Here is the official media release on the USOC vote - USAT Media Release.
If I am sober enough when I get back in tonight I'll recap the meeting. If not, I'll do it in the morning before I head out to the airport.

The vote is in
While the USAT Board is currently on our morning break, I wanted to update my readers on the outcome of the USAT vs. USOC resolution. After much discussion by the USAT Board and staff, Jack Weiss decided to pull his resolution requiring USAT to secede from the USOC family. Rob Kasper then submitted another resolution confirming USAT's support of the USOC program. This resolution passed unanimously.
I'll post my take on this entire issue later tonight. Now it's time to head back to the meeting...

This year our athletes will dine like kings!
Until recently, dining in Clermont was always an experience. It was easier to drive into Orlando and eat than to deal with Clermont's culinary experiments. Another reason to leave town was the fact that Clermont didn't have a decent Italian Restaurant.
Last fall that changed when Lil' Anthony's Pizza came to town. The public voted their Orlando restaurant as having the best pizza in Orlando. Finally Clermont got what it deserved, a great Italian Restaurant.
The gals that own Lil' Anthony's are awesome and they are partnering with us for all of our Clermont triathlons. They will be providing specialty pizzas and pasta for the post race food following each event. These are not mass produced pizzas like the ones we have served in the past, they are freshly made, hand tossed pizzas. They use nothing but the finest ingredients, and what's cool is that they only use bottled water when making their pizza dough. The pasta will be fresh also and will be more than just plain pasta with sauce. This will certainly be quite an upgrade from the tired old beans and rice you receive at many of Florida's other triathlons.
Lil' Anthony's will also be producing the spread for this year's Great Floridian and Florida Challenge pasta feast.
Next time you are in Clermont be sure and check Lil' Anthony's out. They are located on North US 27 in Minneola, about one mile north of the Citrus Tower.
Darn, now I'm hungry......

Welcome!
Welcome to Fred's Blog! With all the buzz about blogs, I felt it was time to take the leap. My intention of putting this online journal on our web site is to give our visitors and event participants a unique insight into my company and the many events we are associated with. I also plan to share my perspective on trends within the multi-sport industry, ChampionChip timing, USA Triathlon, and other topics of interest.
It will be interesting to see how much information I'm willing to share in this blog. A few years back an employee of mine posted some behind the scenes race week info on his personal blog. He was new to sports industry and needless to say I was not impressed with his comments. Special events can be somewhat magical. From the athletes perspective an event may be flawless, but behind the scenes it may be complete chaos for management team.
I guess only time will tell how much of this chaos I'm willing to share. Stay tuned...
